One thing unique about this company is the fact that they don’t market their shoes to super athletes. While Nike is busy making sure that Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods are happy, New Balance is content to make shoes for the ordinary men and women of the world. I also like the fact that this corporation makes all it’s shoes locally. The outsourcing of labor and materials has kind of stained the shoe industry. New Balance is a breath of fresh air in this regard. The shoe we’re looking at today is the New Balance 2001 Running shoe. 2001 isn’t a year here folks! It’s just the model number.
Unlike a lot of New Balance’s running shoes, the 2001 has a classic look about it. Some people even refer to this particular shoe as the heritage model. While it may look like a throw back to your dad’s runner, the technology inside is all new. Before we get into the specifics here, let’s consider where one may want to buy these shoes. If you read some of my other New Balance reviews, you’ll notice that I almost always recommend buying shoes online. This is for a couple of reasons. First off, I’m not a big fan of the mall. Buying stuff from the comfort of my own home is so much easier. Secondly, the Internet offers a whole lot of reviews on many different shoes. I don’t want to read a great review and then drive to the mall only to find out that the model doesn’t exist anymore! Thirdly, you can get better prices online. Internet retailers are hurting for your money right now. Exploit them! A word of warning though. I know what size I am in New Balance’s eyes. If you don’t, I recommend getting yourself to a reputable running store and trying on a pair of the 2001’s.
As I said off the top, this shoe is in a heritage style. That said, there is still an abundance of innovative technology in the 2001. The most notable one is the N ERGY feature that keeps the shoe stable. Stability is something that every good running shoe should have. It prevents injuries and also makes your jog more enjoyable. Other bits of technology found in this shoe include New Balance’s patented and much written about ABZORB SBS feature. This provides a shock absorbing effect on the forefoot of the shoe. The 2001’s also come stock with a synthetic upper made of mesh. This feature allows the shoe to breath and keeps your feet cool as a result.
All in all, the New Balance 2001’s are a great running shoe. They’re comfortable, durable and have a unique style. One complaint that some people have regarding this shoe is the look. It’s only available in couple colors for both men and women. It also has an old man kind of look about it. If this heritage appearance isn’t your thing, you may want to consider one of New Balance’s many other shoes. There is a list of different ones at the end of this article. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, you may also want to check out their official site. New Balance is constantly adding new shoes to their arsenal. They also have a slightly annoying habit of changing the model numbers of their certain shoes. If you can’t find a model that you’re looking for, search under some different numbers. Chances are it still exists but NB changed the name.
