Steven Owen, 55, said: "There is nowhere safe to cross the road.
"There are lots of young children who live round her, I have four grandchildren, and the road is a big concern."
Penny Hughes, 43, said: "Why should a tragedy like this have to happen before something gets done?"
A Wakefield Council spokeswoman said: "Like everyone else, Wakefield Council would like to do all that it can to prevent another tragic accident from occurring.
"The police are carrying out an investigation and we are, of course, co operating with this investigation.
"Fishpond Lane does not have a high incidence of accident, but until the investigation has been concluded it is still too early to comment on what, if any, action may be required."
An inquest into Owen’s death was opened last week and adjourned pending further police enquiries.
