We love hearing new things and original ideas about CrossFit. Unfortunately we been seeing a decent amount of spam coming through. Rembedding youtube videos on a blog and posting a link to it will result in a warning followed by a ban. If you want to show the video, post it to the subreddit!Weightlifting shoes have a raised solid heel. For the olympic lifts and squatting you want to have a shoe that anchors you to the ground and doesn compress.
Regular running shoes are designed to do the opposite of that and it is why they are discouraged. Chucks have a harder and more stable sole but anyone who thinks they are incompressible or stable has never used proper shoes.
For the Deadlift, some people can lift more barefoot than with shoes, me being one of them. Chucks are NOT preferred over actual weightlifting shoes in terms of weightlifting. Weightlifting shoes have an elevated heel made of a hard material that offers a lot more stability than chucks. Most important is the elevated heel, allowing you to keep your torso more upright at the bottom of a squat.
