Maggie Lucas from first place Penn State won the honor from both conference coaches and media, ending the OSU streak that began in 2005 with the Air Jordan Future first of three player of the year awards Air Jordan Fusion 5 by Jessica Davenport. That was followed by the four year run of Cleveland Central Catholic grad Jantel Lavender, and then Air Jordan 23s by point guard Samantha Prahalis last year.Ohio State had a shot at it again going into this year with Tayler Hill, but after a down regular season saw Ohio State go 17 12 and 7 9 in Big Ten play, Hill was named a first team All Air Jordan 4s Big Ten selection, but not the player of the year. Hill also made first team All Defense, as did teammate Amber Stokes.
