The PUMA Mobium Elite is a revolutionary new shoe designed to expand and contract with your foot.
The technology was inspired by the paws of big cats like the puma. When the cat runs, the foot Air Jordan CDP opens and closes with each step, providing natural cushioning and propulsion.
PUMA calls it Adaptive Running, meaning that instead of your foot being forced to adapt to the shoe, the Mobium adapts to you, changing and expanding as your foot moves.
Unlike minimalist shoes that allow the foot to do what it does best with a bare bones approach, the Mobium Elite uses new KOBE 9 technology to work with your foot’s natural movement.
PUMA’s Windlass Chassis changes in height, length and proportion as you run and your foot expands and contracts.
Expansion Pods in the outsole provide a phenomenal amount of cushioning without adding the extra bulk and weight of some cushioned trainers.
But one of the most unique things about the shoe is the elastic Mobium Band in the outsole. If you flip the shoe over, you can see a bungee type cord in a figure eight pattern that crisscrosses at the midsole. Like the tendons in your foot, the band is meant to expand with force and add spring in return.
I tested the Mobium Elite over three weeks on both the roads and the treadmill. To say that I liked the shoe would be an understatement. Incredibly comfortable right out of the box, the Mobium delivered on all of its promises. It’s cushioned and yet lightweight. It offers more underfoot than a minimalist shoe, but maintains flexibility in all of the right places.
I found the extremely thin tongue a bit odd at first, wondering if my laces would dig into my foot. This wasn’t an issue. The tongue is both comfortable and flexible, and saves on weight.
The EverTrack outsole seems very Nike LeBron 12 durable, and shows little wear after three weeks of running. I wondered if the Mobium Band would be at risk of fraying because it’s clearly visible in the outsole, but it’s tucked into the grooves and should be safe, except possibly on the gnarliest of trails.
The Mobium Elite is best for neutral runners with a mid or forefoot strike, and is good for all distances from the 5k through the marathon. It’s available online from PUMA for $110.
