On a 3 1 vote, the City Council Air Jordan 4s last week approved constructing a $60,000, half acre dog park at Del Norte Park, 1500 W. Rowland Ave. Councilman Steve Herfert cast the opposing vote. “I think that’s an item our city has been needing, and a lot of cities already have them,” Mayor Mike Touhey said. “The parks we have currently (allow) walking dogs on a leash. At a dog park, you get to walk them free. I Air Jordan 1 think it’s great to enhance our park. It’s more modern.” City officials will utilize the existing green space at Del Norte to create dog park space for both large and small pets. Construction will include fence and gates, water fountains, benches and tables, waste collection bags, trees, trash cans and irrigation. The roughly $60,000 project expected to be completed by early summer will be funded with Proposition A Safe Neighborhood Parks Act monies. “The city has been able to close some old grants and combine these loose funds that have been available to the fund the construction,” Deputy City Manager Chris Freeland said. “It is the hope of city staff . that as we look at the sites and current conditions, to be able to reduce that cost even more significantly.” Still, some residents said this was the wrong time for Air Jordan 2011 a dog park given the city’s financial troubles. “A dog park is an amenity that would be desirable in a good economy,” resident John Solis said. “However, we find ourselves in an economy that still continues to struggle and there are other priorities within Jordan 1 Retro our community. I must choose between the need of my trusted companions and the need of my community.” Resident Alfred Williams said Del Norte was one of the farthest parks within the city. “I think we need to look at other things such as how far somebody would actually drive to walk their dogs,” he said. “There might be plenty of places that might be suitable. We’re looking at parks where we’re going to take from one park to provide for another.” Del Norte was one of five locations considered for a dog park. Others included Shadow Oak Park, Palmview Park, Gingrich Park and Woodgrove Park. After holding several community meetings for residents at the different parks last year, city officials said they found the most support for a dog park at Del Norte, which currently has tennis courts, a baseball field and a new splash pad coming in July. The funding would not have covered upgrades that other residents wanted at their parks, including restroom facilities and more parking, officials said. “I understand people may have to drive one place to another, but we have one Jordan Pro Strong senior center in West Covina. We only have one soccer league. We only have one gym,” Touhey said. “We still have consider the needs of our residents, whether its tough budget times or not.” Contact Juliette via email, by phone at 626 962 8811, ext.
