Two big third quarter plays a 53 yard run by Reggie Bush when he bounced outside, and a 30 yard scramble by rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill accounted for almost half the Dolphins’ total rushing yards.
Jaguars coach Mike Mularkey said poor tackling and the inability of the offense to sustain drives, which left the defense on the field too long, both contributed to the poor effort.
“It was not what the Dolphins did, but what we did,” said defensive tackle Tyson Alualu. “We go into every game wanting to stop the run first, but we failed to do it again this week. We have to play better.”
The Air Jordan 2010 running game enabled the Dolphins to have a 35:38 to 24:22 edge in time of possession and opened up the passing game for Tannehill, who completed 22 of 28 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns. The Dolphins had seven plays of 15 yards or more in the second half.
The Jaguars had the ball for only nine offensive plays in the third quarter and managed just one first down.
Defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said the Jaguars stressed run defense in practice last week, but still got burned.
“It’s frustrating,” Knighton said. “I don’t know what to say. I’m at a loss for words at what’s going on. Tired of losing. I don’t know.
“We’re seeing the same things. Like I said last week, it’s a copycat league. We knew what plays to expect. They executed, we didn’t. They were putting a lot of tight ends on the field and tried to get four or five yards and once we misfit, it turned into a big play.
“To get run on is embarrassing. Until we get that fixed, nothing will change. I don’t know what’s going on on Sunday, why we can’t stop it. We talk about stopping the run every day and it’s not happening.”
On Tannehill running eight times for 52 Air Jordan 20s yards, Mularkey said, “We knew the guy was very athletic. We can’t let him get out of the pocket Air Jordan 19s and let him make some plays with his legs that we did. They did a good job with the scheme. Some of those were busted plays. He got five on a broken play.”
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said: “It’s always good to have a running game. Jordan Winterized 6 Rings When you have that balance, it helps our play calling and [offensive coordinator] Mike Sherman a great, great deal when we can have that type of balance. You’re not forced to drop back on every play. It helps your play action game.”
Bush, who carried 21 yards for 104 yards, said of his 53 yard run, “It was a power play. I saw that the d end went inside hard, and I couldn’t really see the outside backer, but I jumped outside. Thankfully, he went inside, too, and it was Air Jordan 9s pretty wide open.”
It was only Bush’s second 100 yard game of the season.
“I thought our offensive line did a great job controlling the line of scrimmage,” Bush said, “dominating their front seven. We came out and dominated a team we were supposed to beat.”
