The state of Punjab may move to ban leather shoes from state run schools. Specifically, the ban Air Jordan 15s will apply to students. According to Eccouterre, it’s in response to a letter from PETA in April.
“It is strongly recommended to stop the atrocities against such innocent animals reducing the consumption of leather,” the director of education said in a memo on Friday.
Black leather shoes are mandatory in many Indian schools but Himachal Pradesh, Chennai, and Chandigarh are considering swapping Air Jordan 2s canvas for leather because the tanning process is Air Jordan 8s cruel for the animals involved but it’s also highly toxic and dangerous both for workers and for the environment.
Politician Maneka Gandhi has long been in favor of the ban because leather is unnecessary in a tropical climate and because it’s reminiscent of Air Jordan 6s British Colonial rule.
According to PETA India, the process of tanning is painfully inhumane:
“Many collapse from hunger, exhaustion, injury, or illness,” says Himani Shetty, a spokesman for the animal rights group. “Other animals are transported in lorries, which are often so severely crowded Jordan Winterized 6 Rings that many suffer serious injuries or die when they are crushed or gored by the horns of others. At abattoirs, many animals are skinned and dismembered while they are still conscious.”
