?My name is Scott and I’m the owner of Climb On indoor rock climbing in Wilmington, North Carolina. Today we are going to discuss different types of rock climbing shoes. There are several different brands of shoes out there. What works for one person may not work for another. In my gym we use evolve slip ons with Velcro, easy on easy off and very comfortable. When I go climbing outside, I generally use a lace up shoe. And the reason for that is that the laces come closer to your toe to tighten the shoe up. The tighter the fit the more aggressive the shoe is going to be and the better you are going to climb. So for this shoe the laces come to about half way down my toes. On a five ten shoe, the laces come all the way to the bottom of your toes, giving you a snugger tighter fit in the toe box, so that nothing moves in the shoe while you are climbing. Any little bit of toe movement in your shoe could result in you falling off the wall. Five ten are made in America in California and one of the better shoes that I’ve found to climb with.
